The Kaneland Harter Middle School Jazz Lab Band is an audition-based group that meets on Tuesdays from 2:45pm-4:30pm. Students will rehearse and perform music from a variety of different jazz styles, and learn about jazz concepts such as jazz style and articulation, jazz harmony, improvisation, and jazz history.
Jazz Band auditions are open to 6th grade band students in the following instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone (Alto, Tenor, and Baritone), Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drum Set, and Vibraphone. Because of the limited instrumentation in a jazz band, there may be students who are not placed in the Jazz Lab Band.
Members of the jazz band are required to attend all after-school rehearsals and performances. Absences not discussed with Mr. Zielinski in advance will be counted as unexcused unless for reasons of illness or family emergency. Please discuss any planned rehearsal conflicts with Mr. Zielinski at least two weeks prior to the date of conflict.

Auditions for the Kaneland Harter Middle School Jazz Lab Band will take place after school in the band room in November. Students should visit the band room to sign up for an audition time and to take a copy of the audition music when it becomes available.
Audition results will be posted in the band room once auditions have concluded. Jazz Lab Band sectionals will begin in the week that follows.
Please see Mr. Zielinski for any additional questions about jazz band auditions or the Kaneland Harter jazz program.
